Each year seems to have certain pest problems due to the weather. Weeds are one of the major complaints I am hearing about this year. Not that weeds aren’t usually a problem but they seem to be particularly bad for some people this year.
Added to this is that due to the high temperatures no weed killers should be used except for boiling water and/or some type of weeding tool. Weedkillers should not be used when temperatures will be above 85 F for 24 hours following application. Some weedkillers do not work if the temperatures are below 70 F or if the area gets wet within 24 hours of application. These rules also apply to most organic weedkillers. Always follow directions to reduce the chance of harm to you, your pets, the rest of your landscape, and neighboring landscapes. In my weed and pest control class the instructor told us a story more than once about a field that was sprayed when temperatures were too hot. The weedkiller volatilized and killed a vineyard a few miles away.
